Luni and Ventimiglia keep ancient ruins of the Roman empire while in Albenga can be found the rests of an old church of the fifth century.
Old roman churches can be found within the retaining walls of the town of Genoa, walls that terminates in "Porta Soprana". These churches are S. Maria di Castello, San Giovanni di Prč e Santi Cosma e Damiano.
The same period gives us abbey of Voltri and Tiglieto and churches of San Fruttuoso, Portofino and S. Martino Drusasca.
During 14th century many famous buildings were constructed (Genoa : Palazzo Lamba Doria, Palazzo Vecchio and Palazzo Andrea Doria) such as churches in Cinque Terre and Chiavari, the Basil of San Salvatore in Lavagna and San Matteo in Genoa.
The "Baroc" period is the most important for Liguria. Rubens lived in Genoa through all 1622 painting the main monuments in town. Bartolomeo Bianco traced out and worked hard to give the city a modern look as it does nowadays. The University building, Palazzo Durazzo and Palazzo Rosso are from that period.
The most famous painter from Liguria is Alessandro Magnasco.
Palazzo Cataldo is almost 300 years old as it does also the Pammatone hospital in Genoa; Carlo Barabino was the engineer who designed the famous "Cimitero di Staglieno".
